The National Bio and Agro-Defense Facility (NBAF) will soon become operational, shifting federal BSL-4 animal disease research capacity from Plum Island, N.Y., to Manhattan, Kansas.

Built by the U.S. Department of Homeland Security, and managed and run by the U.S. Department of Agriculture, this world-leading laboratory will help protect the nation’s agriculture, farmers and citizens against the threat and impact of serious zoonotic diseases.

Specifically, USDA’s Agricultural Research Service (ARS) and Animal and Plant Health Inspection Service (APHIS) will carry out research, training and diagnostics on animal diseases and zoonotic pathogens.

Learn more about NBAF and the critical role it will play in preventing future pandemics and in keeping our food supply safe.
