Flint Hills
The Flint Hills of Kansas are one of the most distinctive geological regions of the world. Home to some of our planet’s only surviving tallgrass prairies on gently rolling hills, the Flint Hills provide unique outdoor vistas and breathtaking experiences. The Greater Manhattan Region is the hub of the Flint Hills and the natural home base for days of exploration and discovery.
We value our authentic outdoor opportunities here. While hiking on the Konza Prairie, boating on Tuttle Creek and Milford reservoirs, or exploring the Tallgrass Prairie Preserve, families can slow down and experience nature in a unique ecosystem that exists nowhere else.
- The Flint Hills Discovery Center immerses you and your family in the geology, wildlife and history of the region.
- The Konza Prairie Biological Station hiking trails — or just “The Konza” to locals — offer glorious hikes of different lengths and levels of difficulty.
- The Tallgrass Prairie National Preserve was established in 1996 to protect a nationally significant remnant of the once vast tallgrass prairie ecosystem.
- The Symphony in the Flint Hills is an annual Kansas City Symphony performance that rotates among glorious Flint Hills locations, giving its 5,000 attendees an unmatched plein air musical experience.
