Manufacturer Plans 146 Jobs at New Manhattan, KS Facility
Apr 01, 2025
PTMW
, a Kansas-based metal fabricator and manufacturer, plans to create 146 new jobs and invest over $14M in a new facility in Manhattan. Average wages for the project are approximately $60,000 per year and when fully staffed, the project will add more than $8.7M in payroll to the local economy annually.
Founded in 1983, PTMW is headquartered in Topeka, KS and is a certified Woman Business Enterprise. PTMW manufactures prefabricated metal enclosures for critical infrastructure. Their products have applications across multiple industries including railroads, power generation & delivery, energy storage, and technology. Demand from emerging tech industries, specifically data centers and AI related to social media, search engines, and big tech are driving the company’s growth into Manhattan.
PTMW plans to begin production in the third quarter of 2025. Company leadership targeted Manhattan due to the region's workforce, technical training opportunities at Manhattan Area Technical College, and a new 112,500 square foot industrial building at 1105 Kretschmer Drive. The facility was built by a local development group, Flint Hills Ventures LLC, and was the first to utilize the City's speculative industrial IRB program.
The City of Manhattan is engaged in the project with economic development incentives that come from dedicated City sales tax revenue. The PTMW project will be able to leverage up to $1,010,000 in City economic development incentive grants over the next 10 years if all job creation and capital investment targets are met. Also, the benefit of a 10-year property tax abatement on the facility will be realized by the company as an additional economic development incentive.
